Roy "The Boy" Edkins is on the run in the San Francisco bay area – a county-wide manhunt is in operation to capture the fugitive. Chief of Police Robert Anderson is on the job and he's determined to get Roy back in prison before it's too late.
My first project, and where better to start than following Annie Atkins' online course on Domestika.
Throughout the course we learned how to read the script, highlight hero props and – most exciting for me – working in an analogue way. It was so refreshing to step away from the screen and get more hands on. I knew those old make up brushes would come in useful one day…
We were tasked with creating props for an escaped convict. I created a newspaper front cover, a Western Union telegram, a prisoner rap sheet (Record of Arrest and Prosecution) for the prisoner, along with the identification card for the lead detective on the case.

This was my first attempt at propmaking and I learned so much. I plan to revisit these in the future – perhaps print the front page off on newsprint at my local printers, and combine it with some actual newspaper pages to add weight to the piece. I'd also start to look at different paper stocks to really get the right feel for the piece.
